I know Craps can seem very intimidating but here are a couple of fast and easy ways to jump onto a table and try to have some lucky FUN! Craps is all about throwing dice (unless you're in an Indian Casino where they only use cards) and hoping they roll a number you're betting on. Play Free Craps The most important thing to stress for new players is to take advantage of free Craps at any online casino. This will allow you to leverage a demo of the game and get a feel for the action without ever having to commit to a real money wager until you are ready. The long, curving section along the edge of the table closest to where the players stand is called the Pass Line. 'Pass Line' Bets. The most basic craps bet is the Pass Line bet. When you place a Pass Line bet, you're betting with the dice. In other words, you're betting that the either a 7 or an 11 will be the first number rolled (called the 'come out' roll).
- Craps really isn’t complicated when you remember that the entire point is gambling on the sum on a pair of dice. One player rolls the dice, typically trying to get a 7 or 11. If they don’t get this number on the first roll, they establish a “point” number that they have to roll again before rolling a 7.
- The modern Craps we know of today though was a version developed by John H. Winn in the 1900s. In this article, we’ll teach you how to play Craps that evolved from Winn’s version. If you want to know how to play Craps for dummies, keep reading. We’ll dissect this game to show you how Craps for beginners works.
Cribbage is a game of numbers. You collect points by combining cards together to make runs, or scoring combinations. The mathematics is simple, but cribbage is a game of strategy and tactics. Sometimes you try to score points, sometimes you try to stop your opponent from scoring; every game is subtly different.
Cribbage relies on experience and intuition rather than strict mathematical calculation. In a given situation, one card may be the right one to play, and another may be the wrong card, and you may have no way to calculate which card is best. Cribbage is also a fast game; experienced players can complete a game in 10 or 15 minutes. You may start playing Cribbage with other relatively inexperienced players because slow play isn’t encouraged.
Cribbage is a finicky game that features many rules and regulations, and it may seem that a rule of etiquette governs almost every aspect of the game. Cribbage also has a vocabulary all its own, which means that you need to know a few specialized words in order to play.
To play Cribbage, all you need are the following:
- Two players, including yourself.
- A standard deck of 52 cards: No jokers necessary.
- A Cribbage board: Many people think that using the board is an integral part of playing the game, but you can also use a pencil and paper to keep score.
You score points in Cribbage in two distinct phases. First, there is the play of the cards; second, you score the points in your hand. You get opportunities to record points during both phases of the game.
Dealing the cards and getting started
To start the game, both players cut the deck, and whoever draws the lowest card is the first dealer. The other player becomes the pone, which is just a crazy Cribbage term for non-dealer. The deal alternates for each hand in the game thereafter.
For every hand, the dealer shuffles the entire deck and offers the cards to the pone to cut. The dealer then deals six cards face-down, one at a time, to both players and puts the rest of the deck, or the stock, in the middle of the playing surface.
Each player picks up the six dealt cards and discards two cards face-down from the six. Those four cards go into the crib, forming a third hand of four cards that the dealer gets to score. (However, the four cards in the crib play no part in the first phase of the game in which the cards are played out.) The dealer now has two hands with which to score points, as opposed to the pone’s one hand.
Cutting the deck
After both players decide which four cards to keep, the pone cuts the remaining cards of the stock, and the dealer turns over the top card of the cut deck to reveal the upcard, or starter. This card essentially becomes part of all three hands — the dealer’s, the pone’s, and the crib. The starter card doesn’t take any part in the playing out of the hand, though.
If the upcard is a jack, the dealer scores 2 points, known as two for his heels. The dealer must claim and record these points before any cards are played.
Recording the score
The standard Cribbage board has four rows of 30 holes.
The object of the game is to go around the two tracks (or rows) the same way a horse goes around an oval in a horse race, completing the circuits before your opponent does. Each point you score advances you one space, so you need 121 points to complete your journey and win the game.
Players each use two pegs to record their points. When you score your first points of the game, you put one peg on the board, and as you score subsequent points, you hop over the leading peg with the trailing peg so that the board always shows how many points you recorded on your last score. Beginning from the start, you move up the outside part of the track and then back down the inside track.

Reaching the finishing post
When you’re nearing the end of the game, you often find that a general strategy for preventing your opponent from pegging out, or winning, overrides what’s otherwise the optimum strategy. If you’re in the lead, you must play cautiously; if you’re behind, you need to go all out for the win.
Say, for example, that both players have 100 points, and you’re the dealer with Q, 8, 7, 2, 5, 8. You keep 8, 8, 7, 2 and throw the queen and 5 into your crib for 15 points. When a 6 comes up as the starter, you realize immediately that you have 14 points in your hand (6 combined with an 8) and a promising crib. You’re the favorite to win, because you only need to scrape up a few points from the play. What’s more, as pone on the next deal, you have the first hand of the next game to count as well if you don’t make it to 121 on this hand. So, you must avoid giving away points, and you tackle the play as cautiously as possible. On the lead of an 8, you play your 2 rather than an 8, assuming that your adversary has another 8. If he could play an 8 to make a pair royale, the 6 points would be worth much more to him than the 2 points for the pair are worth to you.
I know Craps can seem very intimidating but here are a couple of fast and easy ways to jump onto a table and try to have some lucky FUN!
Craps For Beginners
Craps is all about throwing dice (unless you're in an Indian Casino where they only use cards) and hoping they roll a number you're betting on. Anyone betting can roll the dice! I'll advise later.
Here is what any common Craps table should look like. This table has numerous ways for you to bet but I'm going to try to keep it basic.
I should advise you that you can put your chips down on any section yourself. However if you can't reach, you can toss or push them towards the dealer and tell them where to place them for you.
One of the easiest bets is called 'The Field'. This is a one time bet for the dice to roll a 2,3,4,9,10,11, or 12. It pays 1 to 1 so betting $15 wins $15. Usually a 2 or 12 wins more!
You can play The Field all night if you're getting lucky. Picking and choosing when you feel those numbers about to roll. Just be sure to remove your chips from the table or they will be bet again.
Next is what you'll most likely see everyone on the table playing. That would be the 'Pass Line' and then those numbers 4,5,six,8,nine, and 10. To get there I just have to explain one thing..
Instructions On How To Play Craps For Dummies
That confusing ON OFF button! Here's the rule of thumb: when it's OFF that means the 'Come Out Roll' is being thrown. Hope for a 7 or 11 and bet the minimum on the..
Pass Line: the most fundamental bet you'll see everyone playing. If a 7 or 11 rolls then you win 1 to 1 while the button is OFF. You only lose your Pass Line bet if a 2,3, or 12 is rolled.
Once a 4,5,6,8,9, or 10 are rolled then the button gets turned ON and placed on the number rolled. You can then place a bet on any of those numbers and only lose if a 7 is rolled.
Bet on any of the numbers you like while the button is ON. If a 7 rolls while button is ON then you lose all your bets and a new person gets to roll the dice. Speak up if you wanna roll!
Craps Cheat Sheet
However if the number the button is ON rolls before the 7, then you win your Pass Line bet and get to keep playing and the button gets turned OFF. The cycle goes ON and OFF until that 7 gets you ON!
TIPS: 1. The Dealer is your friend and can help with any questions. 2. ALWAYS place your cash on the table for chips. Don't hand cash directly to the dealer. Put it on the TABLE!
3. Be aware of table minimums. If its $15 then you just have to make sure you have $15 in bets on the table even if it's split up all around.
